STAYING CONNECTED BEHIND THE WHEEL HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER. COME AND CHECK OUT ANDROID AUTO™, HOW IT WORKS AND SOME HIDDEN FEATURES.
WHAT IS ANDROID AUTO™?
Android Auto™ is the Android equivalent of Apple CarPlay for a car’s touchscreen display.
Android Auto streams an easy to use interface onto your vehicle’s touchscreen display and allows you to operate a simplified version of your phone while staying safe behind the wheel.
HOW TO USE ANDROID AUTO
To set up Android Auto, first make sure your phone meets the minimum requirements and your car is compatible. If you are unsure check with your local dealer. Download the official Android Auto app from the Google Play store. Plug your phone into your vehicles Smartphone USB port and follow the prompts. You should now be good to go, as easy as that.
1. MANUALLY CONTROL DAY/NIGHT MODE
As you drive, your Android Auto should automatically adjust between day and night modes depending on your vehicle’s settings.
If you prefer the darker or lighter version, it can be easily changed in the developer settings of Android Auto.
Simply follow these steps and you’ll be in day or night time bliss in no time.
- Open the Android Auto app on your phone
- Choose About from the left menu
- Tap the Settings Cog on the header and then scroll down to Version. Tap Version about 10 times until Developer Mode is enabled.
- Select Developer settings by pressing the three dots on the top right hand corner of your phone screen.
- From here you’ll be able to toggle the day/night mode
2. SET UP AUTOMATIC MESSAGES
With Android Auto, you have the ability to set up automatic messages for when you’re behind the wheel.
Automatic replying can be set up on any Android phone, just enter the Android Auto app, enter the settings, click on Auto-reply and draft your message.
This will automatically reply to everyone who messages you with your chosen message. It’s a safe alternative to let your friends and family know you’re unable to reply because you’re driving.
3. SET UP AUTOMATIC LAUNCH
If you intend to use Android Auto every time you use your car then you should consider setting up Autolaunch for your Android Auto.
Just open the settings menu, and select Autolaunch so it comes up every time you get in your car.
4. 3RD PARTY MUSIC PLAYERS
There are heaps of new apps for Android Auto that are compatible and let you play music through your car speakers.
If you’re having issues discovering 3rd Party audio players, it may be because Developer mode is not enabled and the ‘Unknown sources’ setting hasn’t been accepted.
To enable ‘Unknown sources’, follow these simple steps.
Open the Android Auto app on your phone
Choose About from the left menu
Tap the Settings Cog on the header and then scroll down to Version. Tap Version about 10 times until Developer Mode is enabled.
Select Developer settings by pressing the three dots on the top right hand corner of your phone screen.
Select ‘Unknown sources’ and enable
These apps include the Google Play music player, the popular Spotify app and Amazon Music
5. “O.K. GOOGLE”
Did you know that you can use voice search through Android Auto just like you can on your phone?
Simply connect your phone to your car, run Android Auto and say “OK Google”.
With voice search you can give directions to your GPS, read and reply to messages, call contacts, play your favourite songs and loads more.
