Paul Maric from CarAdvice.com compares size, technology and drivability between the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tuscon.
SIZE
If you've got a SUV on your shopping list, then you most likely require a lot of space. In the words of Maric, "Size definitely matters when it comes to SUVs", and it's the CR-V that's got larger boot capacity. Where the Tuscon has 488L of boot capacity, the CR-V gets about 522L up to the back of the seats, and over 1000L up to the roof!
But the thing that impresses Maric the most? The amount of rear leg room in the CR-V. "Whether you've got a small family or a growing family, you're going to love this space because there is lots of room back here." On the Tuscon, he thought the back seats were a "good space for kids but a little cramped for adults."
VERDICT: "It's the CR-V that wins on quality."
TECHNOLOGY
When it comes to technology in the CR-V "it literally isn't missing anything", according to Maric. "You get a 7 inch infotainment screen that comes with satellite navigation. You also have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto."
The Tuscon also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but only get's one front USB port, compared to the CR-V which gets two for added convenience.
Over the Tuscon the CR-V also gets clever features like smart entry, helpful when your hands are full with shopping bags, and smart push to start button for added security and convenience.
VERDICT: "This is one fully loaded SUV."
DRIVABILITY
So how do the engines compare? Maric tests the CR-V first and thinks you'll "feel confident with the engine". The CR-V gets a 1.5L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, and makes 140kW of power and 240Nm of torque. In comparison, the Tuscon gets a 2L naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 121kW of power and 203Nm of torque. Maric says you "certainly feel it when you get stuck into it- it makes a lot of noise but it doesn't really go all that quick."
On the CR-V's steering, he thinks "the steering is slightly heavy but it gives you that confidence behind the wheel- it means you can have a bit of fun if you find some corners.”
VERDICT: "Despite the Tuscon being tuned locally, the CR-V is much closer in terms of on road performance than I thought it would be, but there can only be one winner."
