WHAT IS APPLE CARPLAY™?
First thing’s first, what is Apple CarPlay™?
Apple CarPlay was introduced in 2014 by Apple and mirrors certain apps from your phone onto your vehicle’s built in display. It allows you to access things like music, maps and make calls safely without going on your phone.
It’s a safer and smarter way to access your phone via your vehicle’s in built display when you’re behind the wheel.
HOW TO USE APPLE CARPLAY?
Using Apple CarPlay is as simple as having it installed in your vehicle and plugging your compatible iPhone into the Smartphone USB port.
Then, after following some simple prompts, the Apple CarPlay home screen will open on your car’s display with all your favourite apps ready to go.
The Honda Accord, Civic, Civic Type R, CR-V (except CR-V Vi) & even the NSX all come with Apple Carplay already installed. All you’ve got to do is plug in and go.
Now that we’ve figured out what it is and how you use it, let’s look at some hidden features so we’re getting the most out of our Apple CarPlay apps.
1. THIRD PARTY MAP APPLICATIONS
When it comes to Apple CarPlay maps, you’re not just limited to the standard Apple maps app.
There are a number of third party apps that are compatible with Apple CarPlay and can offer a different experience than what you get with the default maps app.
These apps include Waze, Google Maps and more.
2. FIND YOUR CAR
Did you know that Apple CarPlay can help you find where you parked your car?
If you’ve ever lost your parked car (happens to the best of us) then this feature is for you.
When you disconnect your phone from Apple CarPlay, maps will automatically make a note of where you parked your car. So whenever you can’t locate your car, open Apple Maps and it will show you exactly where you left it.
It’s important to note that Maps won’t mark your parked car if you frequently park in the same location, like at home or work.
3. HOME SCREEN CUSTOMISATION
It’s possible to customise your home screen to make it more personalised and have all your favourite apps front and centre.
It’s fairly easy to do - you don’t even need to have Apple CarPlay active to do so. Just follow these steps
- On your iPhone open the Settings app
- Open the General section and then select Apple CarPlay
- Your car should be listed. Select it.
- You should be seeing a duplication of the Apple CarPlay screen. You can now move the apps around to a location of your choosing. If you press the small minus sign it will move the app to a hidden menu. To add it back, just go to hidden app menu and tap it.
4. THIRD PARTY ENTERTAINMENT APPLICATIONS
Don’t limit yourself to Apple Music. There’s plenty of new apps for Apple CarPlay out there that will get you through even the slowest of traffic jams.
Listen to an audiobook with the Audible app, catch up on some news with Stitcher or listen to your favourite podcast with Overcast or Downcast.

5. SIRI VOICE ASSISTANCE
