PREPARATION - THE KEY TO ANY GREAT ROAD TRIP. TAKE A LOOK AT OUR LIST OF ROAD TRIP ESSENTIALS TO ENSURE YOU NEVER GET CAUGHT OUT.

Road trips generally come with a mixed feeling of excitement and nervous anticipation.

With road trips come adventures to new & unexplored places, experiencing new things and bonding with your friends & family while doing so.

While we can definitely appreciate the romance of a spontaneous road trip, preparation is the key to making it a success.

We’ve put together what we believe is the ultimate road trip checklist that will have you driving on easy street all the way.

ROAD TRIP SAFETY CHECKLIST

As always, safety first.

Giving your vehicle a quick once over should be considered a necessity to make sure you don’t break down on the side of the road somewhere - ruining the trip.

Check all of these off your list and remember if you’re ever unsure, visit your mechanic or if you drive a Honda, your local Honda dealership.

  • Check your fuel

  • Check your engine oil, brake fluid, engine coolant, power steering fluid and all relevant fluids

  • Make sure all lights and gauges are working correctly

  • Check tyre pressure and tyre tread

  • Make sure your roadside assistance is active and valid

  • Check windscreen washer fluid

  • Make sure your spare wheel is inflated and ready if needed

  • Make sure your car has been serviced recently

ROAD TRIP TOOLS CHECKLIST

No matter how prepared you are, you can't plan for the unexpected. So when things go pear-shaped, it's good to make sure you have the proper equipment on hand to get you back on the road in no time.

Make sure you have all these essentials locked, loaded and ready to go.

  • Car Jack

  • Wheel Wrench

  • First Aid Kit

  • Fire Extinguisher

  • Jumper Cables

  • Torch

  • Lifehammer (window/seatbelt escape device)

  • Tyre Chains (If it's going to be snowing!)

PLAN IT OUT

It’s never a good idea to venture into the great unknown without a plan in place. Even if you’ve driven the particular route before, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Map out the route on Maps and make a note of places to stop, petrol stations and nearby towns.

If you plan on using a GPS make sure it’s in working condition and fully charged. If you have a GPS built into your car, make sure you bring a physical map with you as well.

ENTERTAINMENT

Last but not least and quite possibly the most important thing to prepare is entertainment!

Road trips are fun so it’s important to make the most of them. Audiobooks, Podcasts and your favourite tunes are a great way to pass the time. If you have young kids it can be a good idea to get a movie going for them in the back seat.

Playing classic games in the car can not only pass the time but help you create great memories as well. Think about busting out the following games when you’re on the road.

I Spy: I spy with my little eye, something beginning with…

Guess the song: Chuck Spotify on shuffle and whoever guesses the songs first wins.

Number Plate game: The first person to find a number plate from every state wins.
