MELBOURNE, June 28, 2019 – Honda’s Civic Type R high-performance hot hatch has been announced as the runaway winner of MOTOR magazine’s annual Bang For Your Bucks (BFYB) award for the second consecutive year.

MOTOR magazine credited the Honda Civic Type R with its 2019 BFYB title ahead of 10 new challengers, representing the best new performance cars to arrive from Germany, France, Japan, Korea and the USA over the past 12 months.

The Civic Type R has now reigned supreme as the best value performance car on sale in Australia for under $100,000 for two years in a row.

“It’s an incredibly accomplished car in isolation, but only in a comparative context is the quality of the Type R brought into sharp focus,” said MOTOR magazine.

The only car ever to win MOTOR’s Performance Car of the Year (PCOTY) and BFYB awards in the same year, the Civic Type R now has the opportunity to become the first car to ever win three straight BFYB trophies.

BFYB award rules allow the winning car to return the following year to defend its title, so Civic Type R will be back in 2020 in an attempt to make history and further enhance its reputation as the undisputed performance car king of the Australian automotive scene.

“Honda’s global development team has created a truly exceptional performance car in the fifth-generation Civic Type R,” said Honda Australia General Manager – Product, Customer & Communications, Mr. Robert Thorp.

“The DNA of this car can be directly linked to some of the founding principles of the Honda brand in technical innovation and advanced engineering.

“The car again showed its performance capabilities when Formula One world champion Jenson Button set a new benchmark lap time around the iconic Mount Panorama race circuit at Bathurst recently.

“So while we are enormously proud of this car and its achievements, it’s fantastic to receive that validation from a third party, confirming what a special car we have in the Civic Type R.”
