The Honda Civic Type R has again demonstrated its performance credentials, this time in the racing arena, claiming second place in the inaugural TCR Australia Series championship with Tony D’Alberto and Wall Racing.
MELBOURNE, November 18, 2019 – The Honda Civic Type R has again demonstrated its performance credentials, this time in the racing arena, claiming second place in the inaugural TCR Australia Series championship with Tony D’Alberto and Wall Racing.
D’Alberto stepped up to secure second place in the championship after a hard fought final round of racing at The Bend in South Australia. After a strong qualifying performance, he started Race 1 from the second row of the grid and held onto that position to finish on the podium in P3, which in turn lifted him from third to second in the championship standings.
Despite plenty of action, incidents and mechanical issues for all competitors throughout Races 2 and 3, D’Alberto managed to finish both races in fifth position, which saw him retain second place overall in the championship and finish the season on a high, 11 points in front of a fast finishing Aaron Cameron.
“What an amazing way to finish the championship, it all came down to Race 3 where there was just one point separating Aaron Cameron and I in the fight for P2 in the championship,” said Tony D’Alberto, driver of Honda Civic Type R #50 for Wall Racing.
“It’s been a great year racing for the Wall Racing team and representing Honda Australia in the inaugural TCR Australia Series, I’ve really enjoyed it, so to come away with second place in the championship is really pleasing.
“It’s a credit to the guys at Wall Racing, they’ve worked extremely hard throughout the year and pushed me hard as well, so it’s a fantastic reward for everyone’s efforts to finish the year in P2 and bring home a trophy.”
Australian international racer John Martin in the Honda Civic Type R #24 for Wall Racing finished the year in 8th position in the championship standings and there were some real highlights along the way, such as scoring the first win for the Honda Civic Type R in TCR Australia Series in Race 3 of Round 3 at The Bend, back in mid-July.
“Second in the championship is a terrific result for Tony and the team at Wall Racing,” said Honda Australia General Manager – Product, Customer and Communications, Mr. Robert Thorp.
“Together with John Martin they have all done a great job throughout the year and made us very proud at Honda. It’s been great to be part of the inaugural year of TCR in Australia, it’s a category that has really delivered in terms of excitement and close racing, and we look forward to seeing what next year brings.”
