Honda’s all-new sixth generation CR-V was launched to the Australian market on 1st September 2023 and has been winning over the hearts of the automotive media, CR-V loyalists, and inquisitive new car buyers since.

The annual News Corp Car of the Year awards invites all makes and models released in the 12 months leading up to the awards and must be available for testing before the nominated cut-off date.

The CR-V e:HEV hybrid was pitted up against two other hybrid models, five electric drivetrains and one diesel-powered Ute as the nine finalists for this year’s award.

Richard Blackburn, National Motoring Editor News Corp said “This mid-sized family SUV is a remarkably polished car and a welcome return to form for a brand long renowned for its quality and engineering excellence. Importantly, it’s a beautifully honed machine, with quality materials and impressive attention to detail in the cabin.

The inaugural Car of The Year finalists are examined and scored against five criteria: value for money, performance, design, technology, and safety.

“This year marks the CR-V’s 26th year in Australia and we are extremely proud of this award” said Honda Australia Director, Ms Carolyn McMahon. “Honda’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain has become increasingly popular across the Accord, Civic, Honda ZR-V and HR-V ranges, delivering a dynamic combination of performance and efficiency and we knew the CR-V e:HEV would be just as popular among Australian consumers.”

The new-generation e:HEV hybrid-electric system offers the most fuel-efficient and sporty driving experience across the CR-V range and serves as a key step in Honda’s electrification strategy to realise carbon neutrality for all Honda products and corporate activities by 2050.

Richard Blackburn said “You can feel the effort Honda has put into its rock-solid build quality, the tuning of its sporty suspension and steering and the finesse of its driver assistance systems. The lovingly honed CR-V is a worthy winner of Car of the Year.”
