BEST ANNUAL SALES RESULT FOR HONDA SINCE 2008

Honda Australia has recorded its best sales result in a decade, on the back of a huge product onslaught in 2017 with the arrival of the all-new Civic hatch, high-performance Civic Type R and CR-V SUV.

Honda finished the calendar year strongly with sales of 46,783 vehicles, up by almost 6,000 vehicles or more than 14 per cent compared to 2016 (40,838 sales).

However, the strength of Honda’s sales success becomes even clearer with a 6th place finish in private sales for 2017. “Unlike some manufacturers who have driven results with aggressive fleet and rental activity, Honda is performing very strongly with private customers,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins.“

In 2017, Honda sold more vehicles to private customers than many of our key competitors, so we are extremely happy with how private buyers have responded to our reinvigorated range of small cars and SUVs.”

In December alone, the Honda Jazz and Odyssey both ranked No. 1 in private share, while the Honda City, Civic sedan, HR-V and CR-V all achieved a No. 2 rank in private market share.

“The uplift in sales came on the back of the arrival of significant new models to the Honda line-up, as well as the introduction of a new standard 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty,” Mr. Collins said.“

Considering the overall decline in the ultra-competitive small car market, our Honda Civic hatch and sedan performed exceptionally well during 2017 and the all-new Honda CR-V has also grabbed buyers’ attention with its five- and seven-seater options, stylish exterior and premium interior.”

Civic was the top-selling Honda nameplate in 2017 with 14,672 sales, more than double its 2016 tally following the arrival of the five-door Civic hatch in May.  The new CR-V also made an immediate impact when it launched late July, lifting Honda’s medium SUV sales by almost 20 per cent year-on-year to 9,502 vehicles, despite contributing only five full months of sales
