Standout December Sales Propels Honda to Strong Finish

Honda Australia has finished 2016 on a resounding high, recording its best December sales result in almost a decade, along with its best annual sales performance since 2009.

The December 2016 sales tally of 4,228 vehicles represented a 27.4 per cent increase compared to December 2015, as well as marking three straight months of year-on-year growth across the fourth quarter.

“December was a sensational sales month for the Honda brand in Australia and capped off an exceptional period of strong growth during the fourth quarter,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins.

“Sales of Honda vehicles increased by more than 15 per cent in Q4 compared to the same period in 2015, with the bold new Civic sedan and stylishly smart HR-V models leading the way, especially with private buyers.”

Honda delivered 40,838 new vehicles during 2016, an increase of 1.8 per cent on the prior year and the company’s best overall sales result since 2009.

HR-V was the top-selling Honda model with 12,403 sales, a 13.8 per cent improvement on 2015, while the new Civic sedan made an immediate impact when it launched mid-year and was easily the most improved model in the ultra-competitive Small car segment, up 62.5 per cent year-on-year.

“Our success in 2016 is testament to the dedication and focus of the entire Honda Australia team, along with our dealer partners,” Mr. Collins said.

“We have consolidated our position in the market, delivered on our company targets and laid a really strong foundation for the year ahead, which will see the arrival of the new Honda Civic hatch, high-performance Civic Type R and an all-new CR-V to tackle the burgeoning Medium SUV segment.”
