First Australian Customer Takes Delivery of Honda NSX Supercar

Honda Australia, in conjunction with Melbourne metropolitan Honda dealer, Yarra Honda, has delivered the first NSX hybrid supercar to an Australian customer.

Just six months after series production commenced at Honda’s state-of-the-art Performance Manufacturing Centre in Marysville, Ohio, the company’s vision for sporty and advanced vehicles will now also be a feature on Australian roads.

The buzz surrounding the second-generation Honda NSX since it was first shown in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show in 2012 has created an unrivalled air of anticipation over the past four years, none more so than for Melbourne supercar enthusiast and long time Honda fan, Allen Cheng.

Mr. Cheng is the first official owner of the all-new NSX supercar in Australia, securing the prized VIN ‘001’ for the local market, trumping even Honda Australia’s own NSX demonstration vehicle, which is VIN ‘002’.

“The new Honda NSX is so much more exclusive than many European supercars on the market,” said Mr. Cheng.  “As soon as its return was announced, I made sure I was on the waiting list straight away.”

Mr. Cheng is now the founding member of what is set to be an ultra-exclusive club of second-generation NSX owners in Australia. With a limited number of vehicles available globally each year, the cutting-edge NSX supercar will remain an extremely rare sight on Australian roads.

In keeping with the exclusivity of Honda’s flagship performance model, the delivery of the first NSX to an Australian customer was marked with a special presentation ceremony and customised handover process, facilitated by the dealership team at Yarra Honda, along with key representatives from Honda Australia’s head office.

A signed and framed letter of congratulations was presented to Mr. Cheng by Honda Australia’s General Manager Dealer Business, Mr. Robert Thorp, along with a 1:18 scale model of the NSX, which was finished in brilliant white paintwork to match the full scale supercar that now takes pride of place in his garage.

“On behalf of the entire team at Honda Australia, it’s an honour to welcome Allen into the close-knit global NSX family and we congratulate him on choosing this ultimate representation of Honda performance and prestige,” Mr. Thorp said.

“The all-wheel drive hybrid NSX is a technological tour-de-force and challenges perceptions about what constitutes a supercar, just as the original NSX did. So we’re sure he will enjoy its extraordinary breadth of ability, scintillating performance and unsurpassed everyday usability.”

Mr. Cheng is a long-time fan of the Japanese brand and has owned more than 10 Honda models in recent years. In addition to the new NSX, his current collection also includes a Civic Type R, Integra Type R, S2000 convertible and an Odyssey VTi-L.

The all-new, second-generation Honda NSX has recently completed a national road-show, where it was showcased at the five Honda dealerships – one in each of the mainland states – that will sell the halo performance model.
