How to change a Honda car remote battery?*

If you’ve recently purchased a new Honda, it may come with a retractable key fob or a keyless remote.

If this is the case and the indicator light isn’t coming on when you press the button, you may be due for a new battery. 

The battery type for a Honda car remote is usually a CR2032. Double check your owner’s manual just to be sure.

To replace the battery, follow the instructions below.

.Retractable Key*

  • Remove the upper half of the cover by carefully prying on the edge with a coin.

    • Some Honda keys come with screws. If your key has screws, make sure you unscrew it instead as using a coin will break the case.

    • Wrap the coin with a cloth to prevent scratching the key

  • Remove the button battery with a small flat-tip screwdriver

  • Make sure to replace the battery with the correct polarity

Keyless Fob*

  • Remove the built-in key

  • Remove the upper half by carefully prying on the edge with a coin

    • Wrap a coin with a cloth to prevent scratching the remote

  • Make sure to replace the battery with the correct polarity
