Public Relations Assistant Manager

About the Role

Reporting to the Group Public Relations Manager, this is a hands-on role responsible for assisting the PR department manage the public-facing reputation of Honda Australia. 

Key Responsibilities

Department Strategy

  • Lead the development of new model launches as per product strategy 
  • Contribute to overall department strategic goals focusing on the role earned media plays alongside paid and owned channels 

Department Management

  • Assist with managing PR department requirements including internal reporting, staffing, budgets, and liaison with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Deputise for the Group PR Manager as required 

Production of Media Materials

  • Generate content for media utilising local and international resources 
  • Create media kits for new model launches and non-motoring activity 
  • Manage press photography library 

Media Relations

  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with automotive media 
  • Understanding of how to maximise earned media potential in Australian media landscape 

Events

  • Assist in the preparation of PR events including new vehicle launches and news conferences 

Media Analysis

  • Undertake media monitoring, analysis and distribution 

Internal Communications

  • Assist with creating and distributing internal communications

About you

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Minimum five years’ experience in public relations, communications or a related field (automotive or a related industry experience preferred) 
  • Ability to write and turn around technical press material under tight deadlines 
  • Experience in earned media strategy and planning 
  • Experience in overseeing maintenance and effectiveness of vehicle press fleet 
  • Ability to construct and deliver presentations to both internal and external audiences 
  • Experience in management of media events (automotive or related industry experience preferred) 
  • Understanding of working cross functionally across earned, paid and owned media channels 
  • Strong media relationships and understanding of Australian media landscape 
  • Ability to maintain solid relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including an understanding of the sensitivity in dealing with different stakeholders 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Interest in and understanding of the automotive industry 
  • High level written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to adapt to change, work unsupervised and to tight deadlines 
  • Initiative, is proactive, creative and a team player 
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations or a related discipline an advantage
